JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
The VP of Finance is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all Financial-related, Compliance, and Information Technology (IT) aspects of the credit union in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), other regulatory and advisory organizations and IT/Compliance trends and regulations, respectively. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, payroll, forecasting, compliance, IT and contributing to the development of the strategic goals. In addition, the VP of Finance is responsible for maintaining knowledge of One Detroit Credit Union’s products and services, by-laws, philosophy and perform other duties as required.
Finance
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance.
- Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range financial planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
- Providing timely and accurate analysis and improvement of budgets and financial reports
- Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by ways to improve areas of IT, Compliance and Finance.
- Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
- Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position thru liquidity and investments.
- Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
- Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the organization may enter.
Compliance
- Serve as the BSA compliance officer and assume responsibility of the backup BSA officer.
- Develop, implement and recommend a risk-based compliance program.
- Evaluate the credit union’s policies, procedures, products and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- On an ongoing basis, review laws and regulations that impact the credit union’s compliance requirements, with emphasis on Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act and OFAC.
- Develop and implement credit union security measures.
- Function as a liaison with DIFS, NCUA and auditors.
Information Technology
- Lead IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and evaluating current and futures IT systems across the organization.
- Direct development and execution of Credit Union Wide Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan.
- Oversee and manage all phases of information technology system design, programming, networking, installation and operation.
- Design, develop and implement systems, policies and procedures related to Information Technology
- Assume responsibility of the IT administrator.
- Ensure the information security structure satisfies both external rules and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Accounting Department, BSA back – up Compliance Officer and IT Administrator.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position. Hours worked may exceed 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position may require occasional travel, up to 25%.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2-5 years of Management/Executive level experience and/or training.
- Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
